Pain is a complex experience that varies significantly between Western and Eastern medicine. In Western medicine, pain is often managed with powerful painkillers that work by manipulating chemical reactions in the body to inhibit and excite nerve responses. However, Eastern medicine approaches pain differently. Instead of using painkillers, it focuses on holistic treatments such as acupuncture, moxibustion, and herbal remedies to address the underlying causes of pain.

In Eastern practices, pain is seen as a valuable diagnostic tool. Specific pain points, known as "ashi points," indicate where treatment is needed. Rather than simply masking the pain, Eastern medicine seeks to understand and treat its root cause, viewing pain as important information about the body's condition. Therefore, while Western medicine often aims to eliminate pain rapidly, Eastern medicine emphasizes restoring balance and healing through connection and natural methods.
